Central VA Visit, June 2008

Following the family reunion weekend, we headed to the central part of the state to spend some time with my sister-in-law, her husband and their kids. Our first morning there, the Tumblebus came to the neighborhood. What a great idea for very convenient, weekly fun!

Theresa dropped us off at the community center on her way to an appointment, but we walked back home after Tumblebus time was over.

It is a longer walk when you have a 2yo on your shoulders.

Nick was sleep-deprived. The kids get up WAY earlier than my kids do, and they don't understand why anyone would want to sleep after the sun has risen. Nick was also staying up late watching movies with his uncle, so he tried to catch naps whenever he could.

Theresa and Jun just put together a great playground in their backyard. The kids enjoyed being pushed "higher" by their cousins.... and climbing the rope ladder. (I can't figure out any reason for this to be posting sideways. Just rotate your head!)

Two cuties!

We left Theresa's and headed for a visit to Luray Caverns-- the largest caverns in the eastern US.

This is a picture of a large, shallow pool. The water perfectly reflects the stalactites hanging above.

Nick and Sam smiling pretty, and

the Great Stalacpipe Organ, the world's largest musical instrument.

From Luray Caverns web site: Stalactites covering 3 1/2 acres of the surrounding caverns produce tones of symphonic quality when electronically tapped by rubber-tipped mallets. This one-of-a-kind instrument was conceived by Mr. Leland W. Sprinkle of Springfield, Virginia, a mathematician and electronics scientist at the Pentagon.

Pretty cool, huh?!
