Honduras Trip

Tony, Samantha and I spent January 28-February 2 in La Ceiba, Honduras. Tony was there to take part in the board meeting for the Total Health clinic http://www.totalhealth.org/news.html , and Samantha and I were along for the ride.

We stayed with Dago and Sandra Irias, who visited us last fall. They took great care of us and fed us way too much. We three stayed in a room with a double bed, bathroom, and loft with a single bed--very nice and spacious. Our front window was the one to the far left.

While Tony was in meetings, Samantha spent the mornings making small muñecas (dolls) out of Model Magic (a type of clay/playdoh that air dries) for the children in the clinic. After making one or two dolls, the children would start crowding around her, waiting for their turn for a doll. She learned how to ask "qué color?", "para ti" and eventually "no mas!" I was mostly able to figure out what the kids were asking for, but, fortunately, I could always find a translator somewhere if we really needed one.

She also made angel muñecas for three of the ladies who volunteer at the clinic.

Dr. Suly is the doctor on staff at the clinic. Many people chose not to visit the clinic this week when they heard that she would be in the meetings and not seeing patients.

Back at Dago and Sandra's house, she found some kids on the street who wanted her to make dolls for them as well. Dago and Sandra's grandsons, Danny and Joel, are sitting to Sammie's left.

Thursday, Dago and Sandra's son Merphran--who administrates the mission trips for Total Health--took us on an overnight trip that started off with a tour of a botanical garden. We saw......

a huge bamboo forest,

leaf cutter ants,

and stayed in cabins on the property.

Friday, we spent a few hours at a resort where we enjoyed the beach, pool, and a nice buffet lunch.

The 'vacation' part of the trip ended with horseback ride up a mountain and a zip line tour down. We rode a series of 18 zip lines through the jungle canopy. Amazing!

HEY! Great job so far! I like the photo of Salud Total from that angle. It looks cool. Keep going. It's fun to read.
